Science and Technology Activity Badge

To achieve the Science and Technology Activity Badge, you must complete on of the five pathways to completion. You should select the pathway which best suits your skills or interest.

Meteorology

To complete the meteorology pathway, you should complete the following:

  1. Regularly record weather observations and measurements over a period of time although this does not have to be in one continuous run
  2. Demonstrate your skills in meteorological recording and observation to a group of Explorer Scouts
  3. Give a detailed explanation of the formation of cloud and the weather associated with different clouds and weather fronts
  4. Find detailed information about how weather maps are made and show how to interpret them for Scouting activities

Mechanic

To undertake the mechanic pathway, you must do the following:

  1. Regularly maintain a mechanical machine over a period of time using a variety of techniques
  2. Demonstrate mechanical knowledge explaining the principles of an engine, gearbox, and a differential
  3. Talk about the safety rules for machine maintenance and how you use those skills responsibly

Radio Communication

The radio communication pathway for this badge requires you to complete the following:

  1. Regularly take part in activity involving a method of radio communication involving a variety of techniques and record your activity to develop your skills
  2. Demonstrate your radio communication method to other Explorer Scouts
  3. Talk about the rules or codes of practice for radio communication and how to use radio equipment responsibly
  4. Share your knowledge of radio communication alphabets and internationally recognised call signs and signals

Electronics

To complete the electronics pathway for the badge, you should complete the following:

  1. Regularly take part in an activity involving electrics and use the time to learn a variety of techniques and equipment to improve your skills
  2. Show and explain your project work in electronics to a group of Explorer Scouts
  3. Discus the safe working practices of electronics and how to use equipment responsibly
  4. Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of circuits, components, and the symbols used in electronics

Astronomy

To achieve the requirements for the astronomy pathway, you must do the following:

  1. Regularly take part in an astronomy activity, using a variety of instruments, record your observations, and show improvement over a period of time
  2. Demonstrate your skills in astronomy including recording and observing to a group of Explorer Scouts
  3. Learn the meaning of technical astronomical terms and give detailed descriptions of our galaxy, solar system, planets, and other bodies
  4. Demonstrate a good knowledge of the history of space exploration since 1969
