Physical Recreation Activity Badge

To complete the Physical Recreation Activity Badge, you must select one of the options from one through to five. You can select the option which best fits you as an individual.

Equestrian

  1. Take part in an equestrian activity over a period of time and show improvement
  2. Demonstrate skills in a horse riding activity to a group of young people and encourage them to try it although you are not expected to have instructor level skills and you should be supervised for the demonstration
  3. Discuss the safety rules to an appropriate adult and explain how you’ve used the skills you learned responsibility
  4. Take part in at least two competitive events or demonstrations and discuss your performance and ways you can improve with an instructor
  5. Demonstrate how you care for your equipment and how you look after your animal

Martial Arts

  1. Take part in martial arts activity recognised by UK Sport and you should regularly, over a period of time, show improvement
  2. Demonstrate your skills to a group of young people and encourage them to try it although you are not expected to have instructor level skills and you should be supervised for the demonstration
  3. Discuss the safety rules of your chosen activity and show the instructor how you use the skills you’ve learned responsibly
  4. Take part in at least two competitive events or demonstrations and discuss your performance and ways you can improve with an instructor

The Scout Association recognises aikido, judo, ju-jitsu, karate, kendo, somobo, taekwondo, tang soo do, and wrestling as martial arts activities.

Master at Arms

  1. Take part in an activity such as fencing, shooting, or archery and take part in your chosen activity over a period of time and work on improvement
  2. Demonstrate your skills to a group of young people and encourage them to try it although you are not expected to have instructor level skills and you should be supervised for the demonstration
  3. Talk about safety rules and laws involved in your chosen activity and how to abide by them
  4. Show how to care for your equipment and perform regular maintenance
  5. Take part in at least two competitive events or demonstrations and discuss your performance and ways you can improve with an instructor

Angler

  1. Take part in angling regularly over a period of time and work on your improvement
  2. Demonstrate your skills to a group of young people and encourage them to try it although you are not expected to have instructor level skills and you should be supervised for the demonstration
  3. Take about safety rules in angling and how to fish in a responsible manner
  4. Take part in at least two competitive events or demonstrations and discuss your performance and ways you can improve with an instructor

Physical Recreation

You can use this option if you want to improve a physical activity and share your knowledge of it for an activity which is not covered by options one through four.

For this generic form of the Physical Recreation Activity Badge you should complete the following:

  1. Take part in a physical activity regularly over a period of time and work on your improvement
  2. Demonstrate your skills to a group of young people and encourage them to try it although you are not expected to have instructor level skills and you should be supervised for the demonstration
  3. Talk about the safety rules or laws surrounding your chosen activity and how to abide by them
  4. Take part in at least two competitive events or demonstrations and discuss your performance and way you can improve with an instructor

Flexibility

Where applicable, badge requirements may be adapted or altered according to the abilities of a young person. Scout Association rules for adjustment can be found in the Policy and Approach article at the Scout Association website.
